Not a science about needs
Economics is not about needs if they aren't expected to be satisfied through purposive behavior. Nevertheless, purposive behavior always imply need.

Just to be clear, remember that Lionel Robbins in his classical definition about economics doesn't refer to "needs" but to "ends".
